Nicki Minaj Hits Grammys Red Carpet in Red Robe, With Pope Look-Alike
Lady Gaga’s arrival with a giant egg may have been the red-carpet surprise at last year’s show, but it was Nicki Minaj who had the most-talked about entrance at the 2012 Grammy Awards.
Nicki Minaj showed up in an extravagant Red Riding Hood ensemble for her Grammys red carpet entrance and she sure got people talking. As if her Red Riding Hood getup wasn’t enough she showed up with a fake “Pope” beside her. The only reason it makes sense is because of her latest single “the Exorcism”. People started talking immediately via Twitter and it still hasn’t stopped. The Catholic Church, for one, wasn’t amused by the exorcism theme.
None of this was an accident or Nicki Minaj’s decision alone. It was all of it was approved by The Recording Academy, which puts on the Grammys. Criticism of both Nicki and the Recording Academy are in high debate right now because of her shocking “Pope” debut.
Nontheless, everyone knows that the Grammys red carpet is always going to be interesting. Nicki Minaj’s makeup was toned down at the Grammys compared to her typical over-the-top look appearances. But even though she toned down her makeup wearing winged liner, pink blush and gloss her arrival on the red carpet with the “pope” was enough to appall people.
Now onto her look, her face looks very pretty and natural, with the focal point on the winged eyeliner and her matte makeup. Last year she sported an animal-print hairstyle, but this year Nicki’s platinum blonde locks were much more toned down and curled under the Versace Little Red Riding Hood-esque fashion. On the makeup front,we think her matte palette looks very pretty on Nicki. What do you think? Do you miss her usually more bizarre style? Maybe she should have stuck to her off the wall look rather than making such a statement appearance. It sidetracked most people from what would have been a stunning classic beauty moment featuring Minaj’s winged eyeliner, dewy skin, and lustrous curls.
So now you know. Tell us: What did you think of Minaj’s red carpet showdown and her look?

Here are a few simple steps to get the look.
Here are a few simple steps:
- Apply a matte foundation like NYX Matte Powder Foundation.
- Apply a light rosy blush. The point is to keep the face makeup simple and clean.
- Curl eyelashes and apply mascara. Try Dior’s Blackout Effect Mascara for more oomph.
- Using a liquid eyeliner with a very thin brush drag the brush along your lashline starting from the top inner corner of your eye toward the outer corner of your eye.
- With liquid eyeliner make a thin line along the top surface. Apply more eyeliner to the outer top of the eye and create a natural outward curve. Be sure to follow the natural shape of your eye.
- Clean away any smudging with a damp Q tip.
- After you have lined both eyes, be sure to compare the thickness on each eye. Are they even? If not, simply take a pointed q-tip and lightly drag the line along the eye to make them symmetrical.
- Once you finish lining your eye, allow 15 seconds for the liner to dry. Then finish with Skindinavia Moisture Lock Finishing Spray
