| The birth of Skindinavia
Skindinavia was started by listening. I know how simple that sounds, but it’s true. For four years, I stood at makeup stations in spas and retail stores around the country and trained on innovative skincare brands. As I set up my presentation, many women would test different lines of color cosmetics. I constantly heard the same complaints. “I’m too oily for this.” or “This only lasts a couple hours on me” or “It’s too hot for makeup” or “This looks too dry on me”. I realized that there were many great skin care products and color lines, but very few were formulated to work well together. Skin care companies rarely considered that women typically wear makeup over their skincare, and that the skincare should somehow benefit the makeup.
That’s when we got to work. Our head chemist, a pronounced makeup junkie and the 2006 Young Cosmetic Chemist of the Year, had been working on a number of unique skincare projects that involved cryogenics (the science of cooling). We decided to see what benefit could be given by cooling the surface your makeup. This was the beginning of Skindinavia as it is today. We saw that chilling makeup would greatly extend both the wear and quality of makeup. Cooling would maintain the crispness of color, reduce sliding, excess shine, movement, and creasing. It also had a pronounced matte effect on those with that powdery or “cakey” look. We knew we were on to something and continue staying true to our one core focus…making makeup better.
